A view from the Peg

As I sit here at my desk it is crazy to think we are halfway through November already! After the past couple of weeks, the fact I am sat at my desk at all is a miracle, we have been very busy here in the Sporting Agency with myself, Gordon & Jono out and about hosting teams the length and breadth of the country. We have seen faces new and old, as well as shoots which are firm favourites and some which are new to us this season. A particular highlight has been the two trips we have hosted so far in Spain… As an agency we organise between 20-30 days shooting in Spain at a range of fantastic estates, each one with it’s own unique charms and Las Golondrinas de Santa Cristina in the Extremadura region of Spain is one of our favourites. We hosted a mixture of U.K. and international clients at the estate in the last couple of weeks and enjoyed some great weather, superb hospitality and catering and exciting, challenging shooting.   Prior to these trips there was much talk (and confusion!) on the processes required to get teams and their guns into Spain since the regulations changed following the U.K. leaving the E.U. – put simply, once we had the correct information and paperwork in place, the process was very simple and painless and both our teams managed to successfully get themselves and their shotguns into Spain either through commercial or private air travel. That being said, for those who wish to travel with a little less paperwork, our estates do offer a great range of hire guns, offering over & under and side by sides of various makes and gauges to suit all. After our Spanish hiatus we have been back to the grindstone with lots of days in the U.K., Jono hosted a great team from the U.S. who after enjoying two days of Spanish partridges, flew into the U.K. for the full ‘Purdey Experience’ with a tour of North Audley Street showroom, Hammersmith factory and a session under the high-towers here at the RBSS before continuing on to Devon for two fantastic day’s pheasant shooting. Gordon and myself have both been kept busy with teams. Shoots are really hitting their stride now with partridges flying incredibly strong and pheasant coming properly into play as well. It is a pleasure to see the shooting community as buoyant – availability is being snapped up in short order with little or no days left unsold for the end of the current season and lots of interest for the next season already. Our advice is to register your interest now, ready for dates being released imminently. We are also fully subscribed for our Roving Syndicate for the remainder of the season but will be circulating dates to those interested for next year on our mailing lists.
