Where classic charm and modern refinement intersect, you’ll find our Trigger Plate Over-and-Under. In recent years, the sporting world has made a move towards higher birds and heavier cartridges. Sensing the need for a gun that can meet these demanding conditions, we introduced the Trigger Plate. From start to finish, our Trigger Plate guns are made entirely in our London factory. Like all of our ‘Best’ guns, it passes through the traditional seven stages of gunmaking in the hands of our world-famous craftsmen. It seamlessly combines their traditional skills with twenty-first-century technology to create a beautiful, handmade shotgun with classically elegant aesthetics and modern strength.

It wasn’t until 1949 and the purchase of James Woodward & Sons that the modern Purdey Over-and-Under was created. Patented in 1913, the Woodward design was famous for being lightweight and exceptionally robust, and the perfect basis for us to refine. Two Purdey workers, Ernest and Harry Lawrence, worked to modify the Woodward ejector mechanism. They redesigned the firing pins and implemented other minor improvements to better suit our style. These changes created both the look and design which is at the heart of every Purdey Over-and-Under built to this day.
