Roving Gun

Roving Gun

Normally, at this time of year, the shooting season is coming to an end. For me, these last days of the season can be some of the most entertaining and enjoyable of the whole year, with the best pegs often on the end of the line rather than in the middle. As well we know, there is nothing normal about this current shooting season… but now is the time when we must look ahead and start making our plans for the coming months and next season.

Whilst we do not know when the lockdown will lift, the reality is that the shooting community, throughout the pandemic, has been responsible and adaptable and has provided a safe and secure environment in which we have been able to enjoy our sport. This gives me great confidence for the future and so we are preparing for, what we hope and believe, will be a busy spring, summer and 21/22 game season.

The “Really Wild” team, having held days all the way through until December, are servicing our traps and preparing for our simulated days to restart, in a Covid-safe way. The grounds team are building new stands and moving the traps to make sure there is plenty of “new” shooting to be enjoyed when we reopen. The retail team are working with suppliers to ensure we hold the best stock of guns, rifles, cartridges and clothes and we continue to work on our social media channels and newsletters to ensure you have plenty to keep you interested.

That leaves the Sporting Agency team. They have had a very busy few weeks, supporting clients and estates who are dealing with the impact of this latest lockdown. As Gordon rightly says, if we wish to enjoy our sport in the coming season, it is imperative the shooting community supports each other. We have been delighted to find ourselves taking bookings for next season. It shows a considered determination to carry on, which is wonderful!

So on behalf of all of us at the RBSS, please continue to stay safe and well and rest assured we cannot wait to be open and see you all.
