News from the Peg

May was a brighter month in many ways, not only because of the beautiful weather. The gradual lifting of restrictions has brought a fresh sense of optimism across the shooting world and a greater sense of clarity as how the shooting season will operate. Looking around the country, the continuous sunshine has led to some very encouraging early reports from the Grouse moors, despite the challenges of heather beetle and wildfires remain a concern and so some rain would not go amiss. In fact, it is not only the moorland that needs the rain, as the seed beds for the cover crops are unseasonably dry. So, whilst we are cautiously optimistic, we have our fingers crossed for some rain (not too much though)!

Looking ahead to the coming season, interest and bookings have been picking up nicely in recent weeks. Whilst there is still a good amount of good shooting available, we are advising our clients to avoid any last minute rush to book their days. Instead, with many estates having implemented sensible Covid-19 cancelation policies, now is the time to book. Not just to ensure you secure the best shooting but also to show the estates your much needed support.

The shooting ground at Royal Berkshire is now up and running in a limited way, which is more good news. If you are an experienced shot and fancy a guided practice session then please do give the office a call on 01491 672900 to make your appointment.

For now, I hope you all stay safe. If Gordon, Leo or I can be of any help do call us or send us an email and we will get straight back to you. (Gordon@rbss.co.uk or Ben@rbss.co.uk)

Very best wishes,

Ben
