Russia Leather Double Gusset Briefcase
This beautifully grained ‘Russia’ leather briefcase has two compartments and a zipped internal pocket. It is carried by a top handle and is completely hand-stitched in linen thread and lined in Audley Red Goatskin. The flap closes with the Purdey flip lock, keeping the contents secure.
The leather used to make this briefcase was discovered on the shipwreck of the Metta Catherina, a Dutch cargo ship sailing from Russia that sank off the Cornish coast in 1786. Perfectly preserved underwater, it is a beautiful example of the Russian tanning technique that could never be replicated anywhere else in the world and is lost to this day. Limited to three pieces, each is stamped with the serial number and the commemorative date of the shipwreck.
Dimensions: 410 x 320 x 90 mm.
