Marquetry Shot Box With Silver Cups
An exquisite piece, this presentation box has been designed to hold eight silver cups, each numbered 1-8 for the benefit of selecting peg numbers.
The perfectly book-matched Burr Walnut exterior is applied to solid American Black Walnut and offers a highly polished and decorative appearance. Once the box is opened it is self-supported at 95° and reveals the inside of the lid - a perfect example of the technique of marquetry. The familiar scene of two pheasants flying is bordered by traditional scrollwork. Created from Burr Walnut, Lacewood, Pear, Maple, Mother of Pearl and Sand Shaded Sycamore. Sand shading is a delicate process that involves dipping a piece of veneer into hot sand to add shadow and depth to a piece. Each cup holder is lined with Alcantara to prevent scratching and to minimise tarnishing.
