Sterling Silver Armarda Dish With Purdey Cartridge Cap Centrepiece
The Story Of The Armada Dish.
An original service of 22 dishes varying in size were made during the reign of Elizabeth I using silver from the Armada. This service was then hidden on Dartmoor during the civil war to avoid seizure by parlimentary troops and was rediscovered in the early 20th century. This sterling silver dish which has a Purdey shotgun cartridge cap centre piece is reproduced from the traditional design and features the staggered hallmarks that were characteristic of the era. The original dishes had hallmarks dated 1581, 1599, 1600 and 1601.
